Ariel Machell Bio

Ariel Machell (she/her) is a poet from California. She received her BA in English from the University of Southern California, where she was the recipient of the 2018 University of Edinburgh Fellowship, and the Gene and Etta Silverman Family Award. She later received an MFA in Poetry from the University of Oregon in 2021. She is an Associate Poetry Editor for Northwest Review. Her work has been published or is forthcoming in Brink, Birdcoat Quarterly, The McNeese Review, The Pinch, SWWIM, The Shore, Up the Staircase Quarterly and elsewhere. Her poem 'Devotion' was nominated for Best New Poets 2022. Her debut chapbook of poems, In the Wake, a finalist for Laurel Review's 2023 Midwest Chapbook Contest and semifinalist for Black Lawrence Press's Spring 2023 Black River Chapbook Competition, will be published by Finishing Line Press in 2024. She has two cats, works in natural wine, is obsessed with rivers, and is prone to sunburn.
